I pity the forests of Cambodia, because every business hotel in this country is full of lacquered hardwood furniture which must have been rainforest not so long ago. The Stung Sen is no exception. If you like heavy wooden furniture, you will love this place.
It also features several other common Cambodian features: Apart from that, for twenty bucks a night, this really is a perfectly adequate option for this neck of the woods.
It even has passable wifi but ask for a room near the router if you intend you use it. Rooms are large, clean and with air con. Bathrooms suffer with the usual mould but are kept clean. We stayed for two nights and unusually for this type of accommodation the sheets were changed each night. However, we had to ask the staff several times for new soap and drinking water. In general the staff is helpful particularly when it comes to arranging tours around the local sites. Location of the hotel is good close to bus stops to Siem Reap or Pnom Penh, about m.
I stayed at this hotel as part of a trip through SE Asia in late I wasn't planning on stopping here but decided to do so to get a more authentic view of the Cambodian lifestyle. I'm definitely glad that I did. It was great to be back outside the confines of begging and touting that goes on in major tourist areas.
The town itself is small and simple but yet picturesque. If you go, definitely venture into the market and explore. There's some really amazing photos waiting to be taken throughout the food section of the market. It's also a great place to score dirt cheap stuff. The people in this town are very, very friendly and it was absolutely great to spend some time here.
